We met about 2 weeks ago. We had our laughs, our questions, our claps, our discussions, and even moments of frustration. Learning new tools and acquiring new knowledge (I know we sometimes don't like to admit it) takes time, practice and vision. I hope you feel you have learned more about differentiating resources in an online environment in the STEM classroom. It is time to reflect, cheer and offer suggestions.
Please share with me what you think went well and what you think can be improved. I welcome suggestions and ideas.

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your time, dedication and amazing work. I had showed some of your project templates to colleagues (other staff developers) and they have all commented about the depth of the projects, the seriousness and levels of differentiation. As one colleague commented, wow, usually people just submit a short lesson plan.

Google SketchUp

Take a look at Google's SketchUp 3D Models Warehouse. Describe how you can incorporate Google SketchUp in your classroom. Give a specific example. The link to Google's SketchUp and the 3D models Warehouse are on our class's website.

Google Earth

Discuss how Google Earth can be used in the STEM classroom. Discuss how can you use Google Earth for multidisciplinary projects. Give 2 specific examples. You can view examples on our class's website as well as looking at Google Earth's galleray. To use the actual Google Earth application, you will need to download it. Make sure your computer in up-to-date and that you have enough space on it. Links and toturials are available on our class's website. Enjoy :)

Independent Study at a Museum

What is a learning continuum?
A learning continuum is a proven model for integrating a field trip visit with a classroom based learning unit. Instead of isolating a field trip as a class event, students prepare for the field trip and understand it's purpose before hand. The field trip itself becomes an integral part of investigation. Aftrwards, students use the information they learned on the field trip for further understanding. The guides are structured as a learning continuum. The basic structure is as follows:

Begin the Investigation At School
Investigation at the New York Hall of Science
Finish the Investigation Back at School

For the independent study, describe one or more activities were you, in relation to your grade level and subject area :

Introduce a topic and prepare students for a visit (in class)
Activity while on the field trip (give specific examples of what would students do at the museum)
Follow-up after the field trip (what would students do in the classroom)
If you are able to connect the activity and the visit to a museum with your project's template for differentiation of instruction that would be great (extra credit).

Using Google Docs for defferentiation of Instruction

1. Share 2 ideas on how you could use Google Docs for differentiation of instruction. Think about students, parents and collaborating with other teachers.

2. Choose a classmate post and comment about their writing. Commenting about someone else's writing make sure to add their name. For example: If I am commenting on Rosemary's post I will start by stating her name. "Rosemary, I thought your idea about teacher collaboration was interesting. When collaborating with another teacher, you really need to choose someone who can give you good and practical feedback ..."

My name is Dorit Eilon and I work as an instructional technology staff developer at Forest Hills HS. Prior to that, I have worked as a borough instructional technology staff developer. I love technology and how it revolutionize education. I am a self-learner and technology allows me to go on many interesting quests. I enjoy hiking and traveling with my husband and two kids.
